6/24/76 The Shortcut to Green Tea/Pearland goes bye-bye

The back way non-road dirt option to cut through to Green Tea was an ongoing issue in the neighborhood. Residents new well enough how long they might wait to finally see "proper" road construction and refused to heed warnings from Harris County until the road was turned into a ditch to stop the illegal passage.

While cutting away the surrounding columns allows for a larger photo, you do miss out on the community news snippets that were caught up in the scan. Lou and Bernice Ward's Caribeean cruise, for example, or little Shance Evans' recovery from tonsil surgery.

  1. We loved that dirt road. It started right behind our house and people always wanted to use our phone when they got stuck. What happened next was not reported in the paper - locals hired someone to come fill it in with fill dirt and people used the road anyway. I think it was a guy in Green Tee who did it.

    1. Awesome! 6 weeks later the Leader was reporting that Harris County had opened the extension for cars, but warned that rain could still get you stuck.
