Houston Illustrated: a few facts about the South's Most Prosperous City, 1893

So, we interrupt your regularly scheduled post from circa 30-40 years ago with something a bit older.

When the South Belt was rice paddies as far as the eye could see, the Houston Daily Herald was publishing Houston Illustrated, in 1893. Victorian Houston, at least the personal residences, have been virtually wiped clean in the name of progress, particularly during the Great Depression when styles had changed and the upkeep of Victorian architecture too costly.
