6/27/79 "Small Town Atmosphere Can Fool"

Due to the quiet small-town atmosphere of the South Belt area, sometimes residents relax and do not take the precautions necessary to avoid unpleasant situation.

In the past week, there have been three incidents reported to us which move us to warn area residents to keep their doors locked, and to instruct youngsters on what to do if strangers attempt to gain entrance into their homes when they are alone, or if strangers call seeking information about their parents.

A Sagemeadow woman escaped a possible rape attempt in her home this past week with a black eye being her only physical injury. She was in her home at approximately 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 when a stranger walked in the unlocked back door.

The unsuspecting woman looked up to find the man standing in the doorway of her bedroom. When she asked who he was, he answered, "My name is Davis. " He told her not to cream of holler, or he'd kill her.  As she struggled with the man he hit her, giving her a black eye. She then got the man to talk to her.

She informed him that a friend who lived at the house had gone to a neighbors and would be returning soon. The intruder left without further harming her.

The man, described as a white male, in his early 20s, 6'1, weighing approximately  lbs, with a "full face" brown hair and brown eyes and a mustache was wearing jeans with a white pullover shirt.

Harris County Sheriff's officers suspect that the man left on foot and is probably an area resident.
