1977 A Slice of South Belt

In the photo of the PISD Math tournament participants, I'm so glad Eric and Leo were placed front and center so we'd have a full appreciation of the 1977 fashion. You other boys with your boring shirts need to get a clue.

Also note yesterday's photo, of the NASA jet over Ellington is followed by the dire news that base's days are numbered.

And, finally, the cut-off story about the continued expansion of the South Belt area:

Eating places, recreational facilities, addition housing and even a church are all part of the tremendous growth going on in the South Belt area. In the past couple of weeks alone, work has started on a Ron's Krispy Fried Chicken site at Hughes and Sageglen drive, and a skating rink on Hall road behind the subdivision of Kirkmont. The new skating facility will be under the same ownership as the Skate Ranch on Almeda-Genoa Road.

Both Ron's and the Skate Ranch are expected to be open by the time summers gets into full swing. Near Almeda Mall, a new pizza place [Shakey's] is getting ready to open its doors, while on an adjacent lot, a shopping area is being constructed on Kleckley Drive. . .
