Christmas Wish Books

Kids all around the South Belt, like every other kid in the U.S.,  marked the start of the Christmas season with the arrival of the Sears and Penney's Christmas Wish Books in the mail.

You'd splay out on the giant braided rug in the living room and bask in the ecstasy of Christmas joy, the toy section, and dog-ear page after page of bright shiny toys. It was even more fun if you had a friend to ooh-and-aah over the pages with, but it was always better to be using your Wishbook so the right toys got marked.

70s check: braided rug, friend in plaid pants, B&W t.v., wood paneling, check!

Ever wish you could see those pages again? Well, Merry Christmas:

Wishbook Web has full Christmas Wish catalogs, from the 1930s through the late 1980s scanned for your Christmas nostalgia.

Enjoy!

A few favorites from the 1975 Sears book:

For comparison's sake, the boys' $88.99 Motocross-look bike costs almost $400 in today's dollars, and the "starter" bikes are nearly $200.
