6/11/80 Unpaved Choate Road dangers

Eight major accidents resulting in the deaths of two drivers and the hospitalization of approximately 10 others since September, 1979, have marked Choate Road as one of the most dangerous thoroughfares in the area.

The two fatalities include South Belt area residents Greg Hahn, victim of a one car accident Oct. 9, 1979, and Sheila Buras, who lost control of her car May 19, 1980.

Hahn was killed instantly when his car struck a light pole on the side of the road at 6:30 p.m.

The car driven by Buras crashed into the ditch along side Choate at approximately midnight.

Unpaved from I-45 to the Beamer Road intersection, Choate, also known as FM 1959, is two lanes of roadway with soft shoulders and deep culverts on the sides which has had a drastic increase in traffic since 1979.
