Hurricane Alicia was the first billion dollar cyclone in Texas.
She made landfall August 18, 1983, traveled straight up Interstate 45 from Galveston, and had her way with our little neighborhood packing winds over 100 MPH.
It delayed the start of school for a few days, caused widespread power outages and flooding, and those winds tore through houses and shops with ease.

I'm not 100% certain, but I am pretty sure that the man standing with his back to the camera in front of a fallen tree is my grandfather. It would have been 2 houses down from where we grew up (at 10606 Seaford), his name was Ben Harrison.
