August 18, 1983 Hurricane Alicia Arrives
Hurricane Alicia was the first billion dollar cyclone in Texas.
She made landfall August 18, 1983, traveled straight up Interstate 45 from Galveston, and had her way with our little neighborhood packing winds over 100 MPH.
It delayed the start of school for a few days, caused widespread power outages and flooding, and those winds tore through houses and shops with ease.
